Pop-up Youth Gallery

What is a pop-up gallery?

We have seen some amazingly talented young artists in our community and want to support and encourage them to continue with their art as well as to showcase their pieces. Art has always been a big part of the church and St Peter’s is no exception, with some beautiful paintings and several stained glass windows. What better place to set up a temporary art gallery over the summer?

During Revival and Summer24 St Peter’s Church will be open for young people aged 11-25 to display a piece of artwork on the theme of ‘My Community’. Visitors will have the opportunity to make an offer to buy pieces that they like and, if the young artist is happy, we will handle the sale and pass the proceeds on.

Who can take part?

Anybody aged 11-25, at the time of the event, can contribute a piece of art. Those under 18 will need to talk to their parents before booking a spot to make sure that they are OK with you taking part. You will also need to have a think about whether you are happy to be contacted about the possible sale of your piece.

What else do I need to know?

We will accept artwork in any medium, so whether your passion is pens, charcoals, paint or collage, now is the time to get creative. You are free to frame it if you would like, but this is not compulsory.

All finished pieces need to be no larger than A3 in size and need to be available from Friday 2nd August to Friday 23rd August.

There is no cost to taking part other than your own art supplies!

When and where do I bring my artwork?

There are a few options to dropping off your artwork.

Friday Coffee Mornings at Christ Church.

You can drop you artwork off any Friday between 10 and 12 until 2nd August at Christ Church on Rothley Road. You are more than welcome to stay for a chat over a drink and cake at the same time.

Before a Sunday Service at Christ Church

Our Sunday service at Christ Church, Rothley Road, starts at 11am. Church is usually open around 1/2 an hour before, and you are free to drop off your artwork at this time. There is no pressure to stay for the service, but don’t be surprised if people want to say hi! Of course, you are more than welcome to join us for worship, even if it is just out of curiosity.

St Peter’s on Thursday 1st August

During 1st August St Peter’s, Market Place, will be open during the afternoon to drop off your piece. We will be starting to arrange the church for our event during this time, so there will be fewer people around, making it a good time if you don’t feel like chatting to people.

By appointment

If you can’t make one of the above we may be able to arrange another time. Please add a note when you complete your booking form, or reply to the confirmation email that you have received. You can also contact Kat, our Youth Worker.

When will the Gallery by open?

The gallery will be open between 11th and 18th August for people to come and have a look. We are getting our team of volunteers together and hope to confirm all of the opening times by the end of July. Keep an eye out for future updates!
