Scattegories

We had a small gathering on Tuesday afternoon (15th August) for our Scattegories event. The creative thinking was off the scale as we puzzled over words and phrases all beginning with the same letter. But, in the end, despite the best efforts of the other teams, it was the vicar and his daughter walking away with the prize box of chocolates – not the first time he’s won either.

Eyes Down – It’s Bingo Time

Almost sixty people enjoyed a fantastic evening of Chips and Bingo on Monday evening. Prizes were won throughout the evening and, after eating our fill of hot chips, the final game of the night was to win a hamper full of goodies. Congratulations to all our winners.

Summer 23 begins with Messy Play

Our Summer 23 week of activities got off to a fantastic start on Monday 14 August with a host of babies and toddlers joining us ‘Under the Sea’ for our Under 5’s Messy Play. Here’s just a couple of photos from the morning to give you a sense of what they were doing.

Summer 23 has finally arrived

Yes, our fabulous week of activities has finally arrived. We’ve been planning, plotting and scheming for months and now, all our hard work is done and the fun can begin.

Check out our Summer 23 webpage for all the details of our free activities.

There are over 2000 free tickets available across eighteen different events during the week. Many are suitable for children, some are designed specifically for youth and there are a couple aimed at adults only. Whatever you like to do, we think there is something for you. So take a look and grab a free ticket before they all go.

Welcome to Mountsorrel Churches

I’m glad you’ve found our website. I hope you enjoy looking around and find out all about us. If you want to know more, do send a message via the contact us page.

This coming weekend the whole village will be welcoming visitors for the annual Mountsorrel Revival taking place on Sunday 13th August. Because of our involvement in the day, we have just one service in our Churches that day and you will be most welcome to join us at St Peter’s Church at 9.30am for a service of Holy Communion. The service will be followed by free tea/coffee so do stay for a chat if you are able to do so.

St Peter’s will then re-open at 11am serving refreshments for the community until 4pm as part of Mountsorrel Revival.

I do hope we get the chance to meet you at the weekend. Every blessing, Colin Resch.

Come and Join Us

At the heart of who we are, is our worship of God, and we’d love to invite you to join us for one or more of our worship services. This coming Sunday 6th August both Churches will be open for worship and you would be most welcome to come along.

At St Peter’s Church, beginning at 9.30am, there will be a service of Morning Prayer (Matins) using the words of the Book of Common Prayer. This service will be led by Mr Gary Lee.

At Christ Church, beginning at 11am, there will be a service of Holy Communion led by Revd Colin Resch, the preacher being Mr Edmund Stacey.

Both services will be followed by free tea/coffee so do stay for a chat afterwards if you want to.

Our latest newsletter is now available

We have just published the August 2023 edition of our Church News and this is now available in our Churches and for download from our website. Just head to mountsorrelchurch.org/churchnews to find this and previous editions.

We hope you find it informative as it contains lots of information about our events and services that are coming up as well as items for prayer. In particular, we have included all the information about our Summer 23 week of activities taking place from 14 – 20 August. We do hope you will be able to join in with some of these events.

Greetings from Mbape

One of our Churchwardens, David, and his wife Karen recently visited the Church of St Michael’s and All Angels in Mbape – just on the outskirts of Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The service included some English included especially for their benefit. Musical accompaniement was by drum and maracas. Julius is the Rector and the service was taken by Rev Nyano the assistant priest. Attached to the Church is a large church-run school with 1200 pupils. Here are some of the congregation. Karen is pictured second from the left.

Hello & Welcome

I’m glad that you’ve found your way to our website. It would be great to meet with you in person and this Sunday, 30th July, presents the perfect opportunity.

At Christ Church, I will be leading our Sunday Worship service which begins at 11am.
At St Peter’s Church, I will be leading a service of Evensong, beginning at 6pm.

You would be more than welcome to join us at either or both of these services – even if you’ve not been to Church for a while, even if you’ve never been. Both services will be followed by free refreshments, so there will be plenty of opportunity to chat to one another afterwards. I hope to see you there.

With every blessing, Colin Resch.
