Quiz Night

It was not your typical pub quiz and it certainly wasn’t a quiet night in!

Linda’s quiz was a fantastic combination of fun and laughter, joy and enthusiasm, puzzlement and contemplation. It involved building newspaper towers, answering riddles, guessing just how clever our mastermind contestents might actually turn out to be and searching for hidden clues in the picture rounds. We will never understand the scoring system, but it really didn’t matter, because everyone was having such a good time. Here’s just a few photos of the evening…

Afternoon Tea

This afternoon (Thursday 17 August), in the beautiful and peaceful setting of St Peter’s gardens, members of the community gathered for Afternoon Tea. A wonderful time was had by all. Copious quantities of tea and coffee were drunk and mountains of sandwiches, cakes and scones were consumed. Although there was no charge, those who were there gave generously towards the work of a local charity, Alex’s Wish, which raises funds to help eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Children’s Cinema

Thursday began with our Children’s Cinema opening as a place for parents and children to come and watch a film together in a relaxed environment. The children enjoyed sweets, popcorn and juice while the adults indulged in tea, coffee and biscuits.

Mountsorrel By The Sea

Over two hundred people gathered in the grounds of Christ Church for our Summer Event – Mountsorrel-by-the-sea. At our new (for one day only) ‘seaside’ resort, we enjoyed splashing in the water, building sandcastles, mini golf and a bouncy castle. Fish and chips were provided by Ocean View Catering and, in the words of one of our guests, “better than chip shop chips.” Steve’s Ices were on hand to ensure everyone had an ice cream to help cool down. There were shells to make necklaces, a tattoo stall and lots and lots and lots of fun and laughter. Thanks to Nick from the Charnwood First Responders who was there to provide first aid cover – just glad you had nothing to do and were able to enjoy watching the lionesses romp home to victory in the World Cup semi-finals. Here’s a few photos of what we got up to….

Pub Walk

Tuesday night and the weather was fine as we gathered in the Sorrel Fox for our pub walk. After ensuring we were suitably refreshed, we set off across the fields following the River Soar to The Navigation Inn at Barrow-upon-Soar where we were in need of further refreshment. After drinking up, we set back towards Mountsorrel taking the more direct route through to Betty Henser’s Lane which just required a short walk along the Loughborough Road to find our finishing post at The Swan. It was a lovely evening and some fantastic conversations were had and friendships were forged and strengthened.

Scattegories

We had a small gathering on Tuesday afternoon (15th August) for our Scattegories event. The creative thinking was off the scale as we puzzled over words and phrases all beginning with the same letter. But, in the end, despite the best efforts of the other teams, it was the vicar and his daughter walking away with the prize box of chocolates – not the first time he’s won either.

Eyes Down – It’s Bingo Time

Almost sixty people enjoyed a fantastic evening of Chips and Bingo on Monday evening. Prizes were won throughout the evening and, after eating our fill of hot chips, the final game of the night was to win a hamper full of goodies. Congratulations to all our winners.

Our Summer 23 week of activities got off to a fantastic start on Monday 14 August with a host of babies and toddlers joining us ‘Under the Sea’ for our Under 5’s Messy Play. Here’s just a couple of photos from the morning to give you a sense of what they were doing.
