Castle Hill War Memorial Centenary Commemoration

On Saturday morning, 15 August 2026, a service took place on Castle Hill in Mountsorrel to celebrate and commemorate the centenary anniversary of the unveiling of the Castle Hill War Memorial.

The original unveling took place on 15 August 1926 with a service led by the Archdeacon of Loughborough, The Venerable, W.P. Hurrell. On this occasion it seemed appropriate to ask the current Archdeacon of Loughborough, The Venerable, Claire Wood to lead the service. She was accompanied and assisted by our Vicar, Revd Colin Resch who is also padre to the local branch of the Royal British Legion.

The order of service was based on the original service used one hundred years ago with very few changes made. The service was introduced by Deputy Lieutenant Col. Robert Martin OBE DL, who also holds the role of County President of the Royal British Legion as well as President of the Mountsorrel Branch.

The service was attended by 130 people on Castle Hill and livestreamed to the Mountsorrel Memorial Centre so that those who were unable to make the journey to the top of the hill could also join in. The service can be viewed on youtube.
